Local governments, community housing organisations and developers now have the ability to negotiate affordable housing outcomes as part of the planning approvals process, following the Victorian Government’s 2018 amendments to the Planning and Environment Act 1987.
To assist all the stakeholders to take advantage of this opportunity, CHIA Vic has teamed with the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) to create a suite of resources that breaks down the process and provides all parties with an enhanced understanding of each other’s operating constraints and business model.
The hope is to encourage more agreements to be struck, enabling more disadvantaged Victorians to have the safety and security of a home.
