The Community Housing Industry Association of Victoria Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Sarah Toohey as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Board Chair Trudi Ray said Sarah was the stand-out candidate following an extensive recruitment process late last year.

“She will bring immense value, authenticity, and knowledge to this critical leadership position,” Trudi said.

Sarah has more than 15 years’ experience in the housing and homelessness sector, including strategy, policy and advocacy roles with Housing Association Unison, The Council to Homeless Persons and the Victorian Council of Social Service. Sarah was also the Campaign Manager for Australians for Affordable housing, a national campaign to increase investment in affordable housing.

Before joining CHIA Vic, Sarah was Senior Advisor to the Minister for Housing Richard Wynne, working to secure the $5.3 billion Big Housing Build, the Victorian Government’s single biggest investment in social housing in the state’s history.

Sarah said she was excited to lead CHIA Vic at a time of significant sector growth.

“Community Housing will deliver more than 4,000 new homes under the Big Housing Build over the next four years, and those homes will transform the lives of so many Victorians. We also need to plan now to make sure that growth continues. I look forward to working with the Community Housing Sector to deliver more secure and affordable homes under the Big Housing Build and beyond.”

Sarah will start her new role with the peak body on 15 March.
