Psychological Safety is a hot topic – as it should be! However, many people don’t have a thorough understanding of how it plays out in the workplace.
No matter what your level within an organisation, leaders have a responsibility to create a culture where people can willingly do their best work. One of the main aspects of positive cultures is that they are psychologically safe.
It’s been proven that teams who report lower levels of psychological safety are more likely to have higher turnover rates, lower engagement and alignment, and have higher absenteeism rates than teams reporting higher levels of psychological safety.
Traditional wisdom once told us that team-performance was based on employees finding their work meaningful, having shared values and possessing skills and competency. While these elements are indeed important, there is a missing factor that ties it all together – psychological safety.
