Under recent changes to the Residential Tenancies Act, new laws apply in relation to accessing properties for inspections including access for mandatory safety checks. This workshop aims to guide participants through the necessary steps required to gain access to rented properties for safety checks and other common inspection types. Additionally, participants will learn to troubleshoot some common access problems, including renter refusal, to ensure these obligations are met.

This workshop will cover:

  • New laws relating to inspections and safety checks required under Residential Rental Agreements
  • Gaining lawful entry to a renter’s home
  • Proper completion and service of entry notices
  • The purpose of safety checks
  • Troubleshooting common access issues

It would be suitable for:

  • Tenancy workers
  • Managers of community housing tenancy workers
  • Asset/maintenance workers
  • Asset managers

The course is facilitated by Lisa May, our in-house trainer at CHIA Vic. Lisa has 20 years experience in the property industry including 7 years in the Community Housing sector in both front line and coordination roles. Lisa also creates leading practice resources for front line workers and finds that being active in the sector gives her insight into the challenges that workers face every day in the dynamic social and community housing landscape, which ensures that training content is relatable and relevant.
