Keeping good case notes and records, essential in tenancy management, can be hard.  It may be very time-consuming, and you may not know what to record or how to record in the most efficient way.

This training will take some of the pain out of keeping case notes by giving clear guidelines on the how and why of recording as well as setting out what should be recorded.

Learning outcomes

Participants in this training will:

  • Have extended their knowledge of how to record
  • Become more confident about what to record
  • Developed their skills in writing clearly and concisely
  • Be clearer about their legal obligations regarding recording

  • why keep case notes and records? (this section includes a discussion on professional and legal obligations);
  • what is a record?
  • common mistakes when keeping case notes and records and how to avoid them
  • how to write in a way that is easy to defend and hard to attack
  • how to write case notes and keep records in a way that is respectful of the client and allows the worker to discharge their duty of care

The training will be run by David Cherry, a Clinical and Forensic psychologist who has been working for over 40 years.  David has provided training for staff in a broad range of settings on staff safety and defusing situations where individuals may be aggressive including in the housing and homelessness sectors. David’s book, which he wrote with Bronwyn Upston,  entitled Managing Violent and Potentially Violent Situations-A Guide for Individuals and Organisations, has been distributed to over 5000 emergency relief providers all around Australia.
