Are you an experienced community housing tenancy manager and keen to deepen your knowledge and application of tenancy law? 

CHIA Vic introduces a new masterclass for staff experienced with working with the Residential Tenancies Act (RTA) to delve into tricky and emerging issues and apply the law to current challenges.  

Led by CHIA Vic Deputy CEO, Jason Perdriau, this is a great opportunity to participate in discussion of complex RTA issues. This workshop is in person and limited places are available. 

Learning outcomes  

  • Deepen your working knowledge of the RTA 
  • Apply the RTA to resolve tricky issues and disputes 
  • Understand recent and upcoming changes to tenancy law and how they impact your work 
  • Apply the Reasonable and Proportionate test and human rights obligations in practice  
  • Identify options for resolving challenges you face in your role.  

Course topics 

Participants will complete a quick pre-workshop survey, to shape the agenda by identifying the RTA issues of most interest. Topics discussed at the masterclass might include, for example: 

  • Applying the reasonable and proportionate test 
  • Understanding legislative reforms 
  • RTA issues for THM management 
  • Understanding maintenance obligations 
  • Recovering service charges 

Who is this course for? 

  • Experienced housing workers and supervisors/team leaders who want to deepen their knowledge about the RTA 
  • Managers who incorporate RTA processes into their organisation’s policies and procedures. 

Delivery 

In person workshop at CHIA Vic’s Melbourne CBD office. The course runs for 3 hours. Limited to 10 participants.

Jason Perdriau Jason Perdriau
Jason is Deputy CEO of CHIA Vic and has fifteen years’ experience in the social housing sector, which has included managing community and public housing programs and leading projects to support the growth and improvement of the social housing sector. Before working in social housing, Jason practised as a solicitor in the private and community sectors, and he has an MBA, Bachelor of Laws and Diploma of Social Housing.
Kathleen Close Kathleen Close
Kat is Project Coordinator of Leading Practice at CHIA Vic and has over a decade’s experience in the social housing sector which has included managing teams, quality assurance, project management and working across the sector on the implementation of the Victorian Housing Register. Kat’s work focuses on helping our members continually improve the quality, efficiency and impact of services for renters.
