Unison Community Housing
Five years ago Frank was one of the first to move in to the newly-built award winning apartment complex in Altona. The complex consists of 69 affordable units and is managed by Unison.
I like the feel and the design of my apartment and there is a nice sense of community here.
Frank’s involvement in the arts and in a number of professional and community organisations, including being actively involved in tenant groups, has provided a foundation for his new role as convenor of Unison’s Tenant Advisory Group (TAG).
‘An important part of my job is to encourage people to speak up and have the confidence to have their voice heard. TAG gives Unison tenants a forum to contribute and talk about what is working and what needs attention.’
Frank and his fellow TAG members meet every two months and provide advice to Unison management. Frank also represents TAG when reporting to the Unison Board ensuring tenant voices are heard at all levels of the organisation.
Frank knows first hand the benefits of being a part of community.
’Being involved in activities that get people out of their homes and socialising is a very important part of improving lives. Tenants feel like they belong to a community rather than feeling isolated and alone.
TAG provides an opportunity for the board and the tenants to have an increased understanding of each other’s point of view, to have a closer relationship and to work together to achieve our same aspiration – to provide affordable homes, connect people and improve lives.’
