Beyond the Big Housing Build, the 2026 Commonwealth Games could deliver 1200 new affordable homes in four regional towns in Victoria, including Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong and Gippsland.

In the lead up to the Regional Affordable Housing Summit the Community Housing Industry Association is calling on the Victorian Government to ensure the 2026 Commonwealth Games athletes village in these regions leaves a lasting legacy and helps solve the region’s housing affordability crisis.

Our acting CEO, Jess Pomeroy spoke with The Courier Ballarat and WIN News Ballarat about how the Games present a unique opportunity for the Victorian Government to trial a new housing model. CHIA Victoria is proposing a mixed tenure model to be released immediately following the Commonwealth Games.
