Traumatic experiences have harmful and varied impacts on renters and, as a result of prior trauma, renters may experience stress, confusion, anxiety or present with complex inconsistent behaviours.  Trauma informed tenancy management practice is grounded in an understanding of trauma and its physical, social and emotional impacts on the lives of renters.

This training compliments the training on Vicarious Trauma, which focuses on the impact of trauma on workers, by providing a greater understanding of the impacts of trauma on renters and building skills in working with people who have been impacted by trauma.  The course focuses on using strength based approaches, building safe, trusting relationships, providing choice, and empowering clients. A key aspect of this is creating environments and conversations where renters do not experience further trauma or re-traumatisation and where they are empowered to make decisions about their lives.
