CHIA Vic has partnered with the Victorian Aboriginal Community Services Association (VACSAL) to deliver cultural awareness training in the context of the new Community Housing Aboriginal Cultural Safety Framework.

This course will give participants an increased understanding of the historical and cultural events that continue to impact on Aboriginal communities and individuals. It will examine the impact of racism and stereotyping and look at ways to break down barriers to working effectively with Aboriginal organisations and individuals.

Whilst the training does not cover the implementation of the framework, it will provide participants with a sound base to assist their organisation to begin the process of adopting the framework.

Josh Wanganeen is a proud Yorta Yorta, Kokitha, Kauna, Narungga man and Father of 3. Josh is VACSAL’s Aboriginal Cultural awareness lead trainer and the cultural co-facilitator for VACSAL’s Diploma and Certificate IV in Community Services. Josh completed a Diploma of Community Services Work in 2012 and went on to complete a dual Bachelor degree in psychology and sociology in 2019. Josh also completed his Certificate IV in TAE in 2015. Josh has been employed in a variety of leadership roles within the Aboriginal community services sector. Josh was runner up in the 2013 Victorian Koori student of the year and won the Wurreker Teacher of the Year award in 2016.
