With the creation of Homes Victoria and the launch of the Big Housing Build there has been a significant increase in social housing projects being delivered across Victoria. This, along with changes to the planning provisions governing social housing projects, mean that many local government officers and Councillors now need to understand community housing and, more importantly, explain it to their local constituents.

The course will cover:

  • What is community housing and social housing more generally
  • How community housing works – its operating model and the various systems that govern and regulate it
  • Who gets housed in community housing
  • How local councils can partner with community housing organisations
  • Growth in the community housing sector – the Big Housing Build, project examples and other opportunities
  • Talking to local residents about community housing
  • Resources for councils – how CHIA Vic can help

It would be suitable for:

  • Local government officers and Councillors seeking to understand community housing
