With the creation of Homes Victoria and the launch of the Big Housing Build it has never been more important for government policy makers to understand community housing. This course will give participants an overview of the community housing sector, including:

  • Similarities and differences between public and community housing
  • The business model of community housing
  • How the sector is funded and regulated
  • The difference between affordable and social housing
  • How community housing organisations allocate housing using the VHR
  • How community housing organisations grow their portfolios (before and during the Big Housing Build)
  • CHIA Vic – who we are, what we do
  • How we work with government

Date: Thursday 14 September 2023

Time: 9:30 am – 12:30 pm

Location: Online (zoom) – link will be sent to registered participants the day before the event

Facilitators: Lisa May, Project Coordinator – Leading Practice, CHIA Vic, and Stephanie Ng, Affordable Housing Business Development Officer, CHIA Vic

The course is facilitated by Lisa May, our inhouse trainer at CHIA Vic. Lisa has 20 years experience in the property industry including 7 years in the Community Housing sector in both front line and coordination roles. Lisa also creates leading practice resources for front line workers and finds that being active in the sector gives her insight into the challenges that workers face every day in the dynamic social and community housing landscape, which ensures that training content is relatable and relevant.
